WATERFORD, Conn. —

The NorthEast Race Cars and Parts Tri Track Open Modified Series will honor the late Ron Bouchard on Thursday night Aug. 25 at New London-Waterford Speedbowl.

In a $10,000 to win, 100 lap feature event, some of the top modified talent from across the Northeast will battle for glory around the Speedbowl. It will be the third ever Tri Track race held there — most recently it was Woody Pitkat and the only other saw Ron Silk visit victory lane.

Bouchard, who was a former winner of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Talladega 500, will be honored pre-race. The ceremony was originally scheduled to take place at Monadnock Speedway in early June, but rain cancelled that event and the tribute has been moved to the Speedbowl.

“Dick Williams had a long, storied history with Ron Bouchard,” series promoter James Schaefer said. “He has worked incredibly hard to make this tribute to him a very special night. Other tracks have honored Ronnie this season as well and we are honored as a series to have this tribute as part of the Speedbowl event.”

The list of talent scheduled to appear on Thursday night includes stars of many modified touring series from across the region. Drivers of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, including most recent tour winner Eric Goodale, have entered. He is joined by Justin Bonsignore, driving for Art Barry, and Rowan Pennink, driving for Gary Gasella.

Pitkat will hope to score again at the Speedbowl — this time driving for Stebbins Racing — while Ron Silk will return to action in the No. 50.

Stars of the Valenti Modified Racing Series, including Chris Pasteryak, will also compete. Other names expected are Dwight Jarvis, Ted Christopher, Keith Rocco, Les Hinckley, Anthony Nocella, Richard Savary and many more. An estimated 35 cars will roll into the paddock area at the Speedbowl on Thursday hoping to get the big trophy.

Honoring the late Mario Fiore, Tommy Barrett will return to action behind the wheel of his No. 44, with a tribute paint scheme to Fiore. Fans are asked to get up on their feet on lap 44 and hold four fingers up on each hand to honor Fiore during the race.

Following Thursday’s race, the final event of the 2016 season for the Tri Track Open Modified Series will take place right back at Waterford as part of “Bemer’s Big Show,” in October.
