BRISTOL, Tenn. — Donny Lia, who won the inaugural NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour event at Bristol Motor Speedway in 2009, paced the first of two practice sessions Wednesday ahead of the Bush’s Beans 150.

Lia posted a fast lap of 129.143 mph around the 0.533-mile famed oval behind the wheel of his No. 8 for car owner Mark Sypher. The one-time Bristol winner finished third in the rain-shortened race in 2015 and is hoping tonight he will grab his second Bristol trophy.

Three-time 2016 NWMT winner Timmy Solomito was second in the session behind the wheel of his Flamingo Motorsports No. 16, with a fast lap of 128.658 mph. Solomito has already won at Thompson, Riverhead and Monadnock this season and looks to add the high-banks of Bristol to his list later tonight.

Returning from an injury, George Brunnhoelzl III came home third fastest in the session. Brunnhoelzl posted a fast lap of 128.537 mph behind the wheel of his No. 28 Dunleavy’s Truck and Trailer Repair mount. He is driving after being cleared by doctors following an on-track injury at Bowman Gray Stadium in the last Whelen Southern Modified Tour event.

Veteran driver Rob Summers was fourth, with Starrett Tools driver and Stafford winner Jimmy Blewett completing the top five.

Defending race winner Ryan Preece was sixth, with Eric Goodale seventh. Kyle Bonsignore, Bobby Santos III and Todd Szegedy completed the balance of the top-10 in the session.

Defending NWMT champion Doug Coby was 12th fastest, while NASCAR Sprint Cup Series star Ryan Newman posted the 13th fastest time behind the wheel of the No. 7 NY.

Teams return to the track for final practice later today at 12:30 p.m., with live updates being found on Race Chaser Online’s Twitter and Facebook pages.
