IMPERIAL, Pa. — In arguably the biggest win yet of his 2017 ‘Return To Dirt’ Tour, Tony Stewart caught a lucky break and then held off the field to win Monday night’s Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions sprint car feature at Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway.

Stewart started third but took over the top spot with eight laps to go, after race-long leader Tim Shaffer was caught up with a lapped car and taken out of the event.

The three-time Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series champion then fended off a late-race charge from Carson Macedo over the closing stages to capture his second-career All Stars win and first of the season.

Stewart’s prior All Stars victory came on Feb. 11, 2012 at Screven Motor Speedway in Sylvania, Ga.

Macedo passed reigning series champion and current points leader Chad Kemenah for second with six laps left, but came 2.862 seconds shy of catching Stewart at the checkered flag.

Lee Jacobs, Kemenah and Ryan Smith completed the top five. Shaffer was credited with 19th.

Macedo was the fast qualifier for the 30-car field with a lap of 17.502 seconds. Stewart, Caleb Armstrong and Kemenah won their respective heat races.
