MEDFORD, Ore. — official release — NHRA photo — Apparel company Petrolhead has extended its sponsorship of the Scotty Pollacheck Racing Pro Stock Motorcycle racing team throughout the 2014 NHRA Mello Yello Countdown to the Championship.

“To have a sponsor extend their agreement with you means you are giving them value,” said Pollacheck. “We are proud that Petrohead finds value in our race team and is making the next step forward with us.”

Pollacheck, who races out of the Matt Smith Racing organization, is currently in the eighth position going into the NHRA Countdown to the Championship.

The sponsorship agreement between Pollacheck and Petrohead, which began in Chicago this season, was set to expire at the conclusion of the Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals.

Petrohead was founded in 2013 by Bill Windham and Ben Carey. Windham is a longtime racer, team owner, and crew chief who currently campaigns a nostalgia Pro Comp car, and Carey is the lead guitarist of the Los Angeles-based rock band Lifehouse. They sell their products at motorsports events and through their website www.petrolheadapparel.com.

Windham met Pollacheck at an Eric Medlin charity go-kart event at Sonoma Raceway, where they were introduced through a mutual friend, Funny Car racer Ron Capps.

“I didn’t know Scotty until March,” said Windham. “I watched him from the beginning of the season and thought that he would be the right person to partner with. His work ethic is like ours. He goes above and beyond what’s expected.”

The original deal was for four races starting in Chicago. It was quickly extended to run through Indy. Now Windham has extended the package throughout all six Countdown events.

“Things have been growing,” said Windham. “Scotty has been doing a great job promoting us, we have gotten a lot of TV exposure, and we have seen it in our sales. He has exceeded our expectations. We are reassured we got the right person to represent our company.”

This is Carey’s first venture into the racing world, and he is equally excited with the partnership.

“Racing is definitely a different world than rock ‘n’ roll,” said Carey. “I am a big fan now. To be involved with Bill at this level is super cool. To have such a class act like Scotty and his team representing Petrolhead on and off the track makes me really proud of what we are doing here.”

Pollacheck has made seven final-round appearances in the last two seasons, including most recently in Sonoma during the prestigious, invitation-only MiraMonte Records NHRA Pro Bike Battle. He placed sixth in the championship points last season.

The Countdown system puts us in a good position to make a run at the championship,” said Pollacheck. “We have a lot of confidence in our team and experience at MSR. Petrolhead’s backing allows us to focus on racing, and that is the best position to be in when you are challenging for the No. 1 plate.

“Bill is a racer, so he understands racing from a competitor’s perspective, which is a tremendous thing to have in a sponsor,” continued Pollacheck. “We are lucky to have a partner like Petrohead. I am proud to represent their brand. It is an innovative company, and our efforts are measurable to the bottom line.”

“We are going to back our boy all the way to the championship,” said Windham. “We are committed to make him a major star in the Pro Stock Motorcycle class.”
