LOS ANGELES – official release — The race suit worn by Formula One racing legend Michael Schumacher in the 2006 British Grand Prix will be auctioned by Nate D. Sanders on July 31.

Interested bidders may participate in the auction online.

In what would be Schumacher’s final season before he announced his first retirement, the German driver was in an epic battle with Spainiard and Renault driver Fernando Alonso. Alonso won the British Grand Prix, defeating Ferrari’s Schumacher, who finished second.

Bidding for Schumacher’s race suit begins at $25,000.

Schumacher came out of retirement in 2010 and raced three more seasons for Mercedes before again announcing his retirement. In December 2013, Schumacher crashed while skiing in Grenoble, France, leaving him in a coma. He has been unable to speak or walk since the accident.

A race suit worn by Alonso in the 2008 Japan Grand Prix – during his final victory for Renault – is also being offered in the auction, for a minimum starting bid of $15,000. Alonso currently races for Ferrari and has won 32 times overall on the Formula One circuit.
