KNPSE PRACTICE: Hayley Quick Early At Greenville

March 22, 2014 — By Shon Sbarra, NASCAR — Getty Images for NASCAR photo — GREENVILLE, S.C. – Cameron Hayley led the way in final NASCAR K&N Pro Series East practice for the Kevin Whitaker Chevrolet 150 on Saturday at Greenville Pickens Speedway.

The 17-year-old out of Calgary, Alberta, Canada posted a fast lap of 20.990 seconds for an average speed of 85.755 mph on the historic South Carolina half-mile oval. This is the first K&N East race at Greenville for Hayley, who was the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West championship runner-up last season.

Kenzie Ruston, who finished a series-best third in this event a year ago, ranked second at 21.104 seconds (85.292 mph) followed by Ben Rhodes at 21.115 seconds (85.247 mph). Josh Berry, who is making his series debut, with a time  of 21.194 seconds (84.930 mph) and Scott Heckert at 21.232 seconds (84.778 mph) were fourth and fifth, respectively.

Kaz Grala, Jesse Little, Austin Hill, Ryan Gifford and Brandon Jones rounded out the top 10 in the final session.

Hayley, Ruston and Rhodes are members of the NASCAR Next program that spotlights young talent in the sport.

Lee Pulliam topped the chart in the first 45-minute session of the day with a speed of 85.478 mph followed by Hayley, Hill, Daniel Suarez and Rhodes.

Two-lap qualifying is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET with the Kevin Whitaker Chevrolet 150 set to go green at 8 p.m.
