GASTONIA, NC (May 17) – Johnny Pursley made a rare start pay off in a big way Friday night at Carolina Speedway as the Clover, SC resident captured his first Roush Yates Late Model win of 2013.
Driving for veteran race Robbie Jordan, Pursley led all the way for the $1,200 win. Timbo Mangum had a strong run to come home second with Wilkesboro, NC’s Chris Cheek third, Robbie Bailey fourth and Billy Thompson fifth.
Kyle Strickler scored his first Stock Car Steel/SRI Open Wheel Modified win of 2013. He took the checkers over; Derrick Ramey, Matt Emmerling, Greg Brown and Manuel Johnson.
In the Domino’s Pizza Street Stock feature it was ‘Flyin’ Brian Austin posting his first 2013 win. Last week’s winner Josh Robbins charged from eight to take home second with Ronald Pope third, Stephen Watts fourth and Jamie McCombs fifth.
Tyler Love collected his first career Carolina Speedway win in the Tilley Harley Davidson Renegade feature. Second through fifth went to; Scott Freeman, Ronald Pope, Adam Vandiver and Jamie Major.
Blake Pryor stayed red hot in the Q2U BBQ Pit Four Cylinder event as he rallied for his fifth win of the season. Shannon Barnhill, Patrick Lyon, Jason Day and young Jeremy Freeman completed the top five.
Casey Shane took home the $500 Hornets win. Josh Blanton, David Moats, Buddy Baucom and Billy Elliot followed.
Carolina Speedway will honor Memorial Day weekend with a scheduled night off Friday night May 24th. Racing action returns Friday night May 31 featuring the Roush Yates Late Models. Gates open at 5:00 with racing at 8:00 pm.
