Whether that is true or not, Preece is set for a reunion of epic proportions in the modified world. Thunderbolt PR and Preece confirmed on Wednesday that the 2013 NASCAR WHELEN Modified Tour champion will reunite with Boehler Racing Enterprises to pilot their famed #3 car, affectionately named Ole’ Blue, in the 2014 Tri-Track Open Modified Series.
Preece returns to the Boehler operation after having driven for them previously on the Tour from 2008-2010. Preece scored three Tour wins while driving for the Boehlers, at Martinsville Speedway in 2008 and at Riverhead Raceway and Stafford Motor Speedway in 2009.
“It’s pretty cool for me to get to drive Ole’ Blue again,” Preece said on Twitter Wednesday just after the announcement. “Boehler Racing Enterprises and I were a great match when I drove for them on the Tour, and Scott Richards and Greg Fournier were awesome to work with. Driving for BRE really helped my racing career to take off, and coming back to work with them is fantastic. The Tri-Track Series bullrings are just what Ole’ Blue likes. I can’t wait!”
The Tri-Track Open Modified Series begins their 2014 season on Sunday, May 11th at the Lee USA Speedway, with races at Star Speedway and Seekonk Speedway on June 14th and July 23rd, respectively.
Preece will be back in action this Saturday, driving the East West Marine/NAPA No. 41 Chevrolet at Langley Speedway in the Courtyard by Marriott/Pepsi 150, the fourth race of the NASCAR WHELEN Southern Modified Tour season. The event will be the first of two scheduled NWSMT starts for Preece in 2014.
