FULTON, NY – JULY 9, 2013 (By Dave Medler) – Coming off a highly successful July 4th holiday show the Fulton Speedway is ready to get back into racing action this Saturday, July 13th as Ehrlich Pest Control and Ingles Performance present a night of affordable, family fun.
On the race card will be the 800 horsepower Tracey Road Equipment Big Block Modifieds, SUNY Canton Sportsman, NAPA Late Models, E&V Energy Novice Sportsman, Four Cylinder Stocks and Mod Lites. For the kids, the Home Depot will be in the midway with their fun activities “Home Depot Kids Work Shop.”
Last Saturday in the Tracey Road Equipment Big Block Modifieds, Pennsylvania’s Jim Witko picked up the hugely popular feature win. What made his win so popular with the fans is that just Witko and his wife Barb make the weekly trip to compete at the Brewerton and Fulton Speedways and prepare the cars themselves with no pit crew help most weekends.
Looking at the point standings, is there a hotter driver right now than Ryan Phelps behind the wheel of his NAPA Auto Parts/No. 99? Every week Phelps starts deep in the pack and when it comes crunch time Phelps is right there contending for the win. Coming into this Saturday night he holds a slim 10 point lead over Pat Ward. Consistent Chad Phelps is 32 back with Billy Decker 36 and Dan Vauter 42 back in the top-five point standings.
Beth Schneider who has been knocking on the door of victory lane all season, finally knocked that door down grabbing her first ever Fulton Speedway, SUNY Canton Sportsman feature win in front of a cheering crowd for her victory lane celebration.
Schneider has taken top-five finishes and a victory to sit 51 points ahead of Ronnie Davis III in the point standings. Jim Spano, Rocco Leone and Chris Hulsizer sit third through fifth in the standings. With over-full field of cars most weeks you never know who you might see in victory lane at the end of the night.
They might not be big in numbers, but the NAPA Late Models put on some of the most competitive racing you’ll see anywhere. Last week Alan Fink grabbed the big win stopping Rick Miller’s three-race win streak.
If there was any doubt how competitive the Late Models are all one has to do is take a look at the point standings. Rick Miller and Dale Caswell are deadlocked at the top with Alan Fink just 16 points behind.
In the E&V Energy Novice Sportsman defending track champion Gary Hoppins’ lead keeps shrinking thanks to Jeremy Dygert . After Dygert’s win last Saturday he is now within 16 points of Hoppins. Improving Hilary Ward, Rookie Kyle Kiehn and Wade Chrisman are third through fifth in the points.
Skip DeGroff still shows the way in the Four Cylinder Stocks points as he looks for another championship to go along with his 2012 title. With a lot of racing left, Mark Johnston and Eric M Zirbel are within striking distance.
