BREWERTON, NY – MAY 21, 2013 (By Dave Medler) – Memorial Day weekend signals the start of the summer season. Whatbetter way to kick it off than an evening of racing excitement at the Brewerton Speedway presented by Tracey Road Equipment, a marketing partner and sponsor of the Big Block Modified division.

On the race card this Friday, May 24th will be the ground pounding Tracey Road Equipment Big Block Modifieds, Nationwide Insurance IMCA Modifieds, Anchor Bar & Grill Mod Lites and the Four Cylinder Super Stocks.

You never know what’s going to happen at the “D-Shaped Dirt Demon.”

What a wild night it was last Friday in the Modifieds. A first lap crash took out some of the heavy hitters that included, Billy Decker, Chuck Bower, Ryan Phelps, Matt Hulsizer and Dale Planck. Not only did they take big hits on the speedway, but also in the point standings. This week look for them to be hammer down trying to make up for what was lost in the season long battle for the points championship.

Once the feature got back underway, it looked like Pat Ward was heading for victory lane. On the last lap going into the first turn, second place running Ryan Bartlett who lost his brakes got into Ward carrying both cars up the track allowing Matt Sheppard and Robbie Bellinger to shoot by. Most in attendance figured with former track champion and current point leader Sheppard in the lead the win was his. Bellinger had other plans and he was able to blast by Sheppard for the popular win.

Kevan Cook and Chris Fleming had another shootout in the Nationwide Insurance IMCA Modifieds. Fleming took advantage of a late yellow to get by Cook for the victory. Once again knocking on the door was Jason Amidon. It’s just a matter of time before Amidon knocks that door down and gets to victory lane.

It finally happened in the Anchor Bar & Grill Mod Lites, Tim Devendorf was beaten. Joe Isabell took a brand new chassis with only one race on it and parked it in victory lane. Devendorf may have had his win streak stopped, but he is still a force as he came from deep in the pack to grab a second place finish.

Chuck Powelczyk racked up career win # 59 in the Four Cylinder Super Stocks. Looking at the all-time wins at the speedway, Chuck is three wins away from tying the all-time Nationwide Insurance IMCA Modified feature winner Sean Lias at 62. Can Powelczyk ever catch Brewerton legend “Bare Foot” Bob McCreadie who has 82 Modified victories.
