NWMT PRACTICE: Santos Quick At Stafford; Fastest in NAPA Fall Final 150 Saturday Session

STAFFORD, Conn. – By Jason Cunningham, NASCAR — Getty Images for NASCAR photo — Bobby Santos is up to his old tricks at Stafford Motor Speedway.

A six-time winner in NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour action at the historic half-mile, including this year’s Spring Sizzler, Santos is once again looking strong as he led the way in Saturday’s 75-minute practice session. The Franklin, Massachusetts, native posted a fast lap of 18.441 seconds (97.609 mph).

In the four Whelen Modified Tour events at Stafford this year behind the wheel of the No. 44 Tinio Racing/ImperialCars.com Chevrolet, Santos was fastest in three of five practices. He’ll attempt to earn his third Stafford Coors Light Pole of the season during qualifying today at 2:30 p.m.

Woody Pitkat, the victor in the last Whelen Modified Tour race at Stafford on Aug. 8, finished second on the practice chart at 18.449 (97.556). Defending race winner Donny Lia was third at 18.473 (97.440).

The rest of the top 10 in practice included: Ted Christopher, points leader Doug Coby, Patrick Emerling, Ryan Preece, Justin Bonsignore, Tommy Barrett Jr. and Ron Silk.

The NAPA Fall Final 150 is slated to take the green flag on Sunday at approximately 3:15 p.m.
