After a limited schedule in 2015 at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park, fans were begging the track to increase the number of events — and the track listened.

The upcoming 2016 season at Thompson will see 10 events during the course of the season including appearances by multiple touring series along with the weekly NASCAR Whelen All-American Series divisions Thompson runs.

The schedule starts with the annual IceBreaker weekend on April 8-10, headlined by the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour 150 lap feature that will start the tour’s 31st annual historic season. The Sunoco Modifieds will also headline the weekend with a 30 lap feature on Sunday afternoon, joined by the Late Models, Limited Sportsman and Mini Stocks as Whelen All-American Series divisions.

The IceBreaker will also start the season for the Pro All Star Series Super Late Models (PASS), the NEMA Lites, North East Street Stock Tour (NESST), Trucks, New England Pro 4 Modifieds and the Vintage Outlaws. All divisions will compete in qualifying and feature racing over the course of the weekend.

Thompson will take a month off after the New England season opener, returning to action on Wednesday May 18 with a Limited Sportsman long distance special. The stars of the division will go 40 laps and will be joined by the Thompson SK Modifieds, Late Models and Mini Stocks.

A special “Military Night” will take place on Wednesday June 1, honoring those who have served the country with a 20/20 for the Late Models. It will consist of two 20 lap races and one 10 lap race that will decide the overall winner. Sunoco Modifieds, Limited Sportsman and Mini Stocks will join the action once again.

The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour will make a second appearance at Thompson on June 15 for the annual Mr. Rooter 125. They will be joined in action by the NEMA Lites as touring series — but the night will also include the Whelen All-American Series divisions from Thompson as they chase NASCAR points.

“For The Fans Night” will be held on Saturday July 9 — with an action packed night planned. The Sunoco Modifieds, Late Models, Limited Sportsman and Mini Stocks will headline action — but will be joined by an invading class from up in Maine. The North East Mini Stock Tour is scheduled to hold a 20 lap feature event that evening.

The 3rd annual Sunoco Modified 20/20 on July 27 will be part of “For The Driver’s Night,” headlined by the two 20 lap races and one 10 lap race to decide the overall victor. The 27th annual Bud King of Beers 150 will take place on Wednesday Aug. 10. The NEMA Midgets will also be on hand for a middle of the week showdown.

Wednesday Aug. 24 will be the annual Sunoco Modified double feature night with two 25 lap events, while Wednesday Sept. 7 will be a special “Way Back Wednesday” night with the Whelen All-American Series divisions being joined by the Vintage Outlaws.

The 54th running of the Sunoco World Series of Speedway Racing will be held on Oct. 14-16, crowning champions from all around New England — including the champion of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour season. Not only the Whelen Tour — but multiple other touring series will be on hand.

Appearances by the ISMA Supermodifieds, American Canadian Tour (ACT), Valenti Modified Racing Series (VMRS), NEMA Midgets, North East Mini Stock Tour, North East Street Stock Tour, New England Pro 4 Modifieds and NEMA Lites will also join the weekend of action. The Thompson divisions will also crown champions during the course of the famous event.
