NSCS: Fast Again; Carl Edwards Leads Opening Saturday Sprint Cup Series Practice At NHMS

For the second time this weekend, Carl Edwards topped the speed chart for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. He unloaded his No. 19 Sports Clip Toyota Saturday morning and drove to the top of the leaderboard, posting a lap of 28.527 seconds (133.516 mph).

Edwards took 27 laps around the New Hampshire Motor Speedway this morning. Closely following Edwards was two-time 2015 winner Kevin Harvick, driver of the Ditech Chevrolet. Harvick put down a lap of 28.546 (133.427 mph), just in front of Penske Racing driver Brad Keslowski who ran 28.552 (133.399 mph).

Penske Racing also took the fourth spot on Saturday morning with driver Joey Logano and his Shell Pennzoil No. 22 Ford with a lap of 28.671 seconds  (132.845 mph).

Kurt Busch, Stewart-Hass Racing driver, completed the top five spots in the early session. Hendrick Motorsports driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. jumped to sixth late in the session, followed by teammate Jimmie Johnson, Denny Hamlin, Matt Kenseth and Austin Dillon, who finished out the top ten.

Other chases that did not finish practice inside the top ten included Paul Menard (12th) Martin Truex Jr. (13th), Jeff Gordon in 14th, Ryan Newman (16th), Kyle Busch (18th), Jamie McMurry (20th) and Clint Bowyer (26th).

Sprint Cup Series rookie Ryan Preece, who will make his first career start on Sunday in the Sylvania 300 was 37th in the session. He will go off 38th tomorrow for the 300 mile event.

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series teams will compete in final practice coming up at 11:3o a.m.
