‘The Doctor’ Danny Johnson might have an advantage over other ‘outsiders’ invading the Black Rock Speedway for Tuesday’s running of the ‘Rumble at The Rock’.
The Rochester, N.Y. pilot of the Chris Gennarelli-owned, Traction Grabber No. 27J already has a Black Rock win under his belt in 2015, coming on opening night back in April.
The Johnson team has committed to running the Short Track Super Series North Region for this season, which brought up the question: ‘What guaranteed starting spot is most appealing to your team?’
The guaranteed starting spots available to pick from for the top three finishers include:
- Lightning on the Mountain; Sunday June 28 at Thunder Mountain Speedway — paying $5,000+ to win and $400 to start
- Crazy 8s Special; Wednesday July 22 at I-88 Speedway — paying $8,888+ to win and $388 to start
- Hustlin’ the Highbanks 51; Tuesday August 11 at Woodhull Raceway — paying $5,100+ to win and $400 to start
Gennarelli’s response — Thunder Mountain Speedway’s running of ‘Lightning on the Mountain’ on Sunday, June 28. The modified team owner was confident in the team and driver’s ability to qualify their way into the shows at I-88 Speedway and Woodhull Raceway.
The show at Thunder Mountain will be tough based on how many cars entered that race in 2014. 73 cars strong attemped to qualify for last year’s running of ‘Lightning on the Mountain’, plus Thunder Mountain hasn’t been one of Johnson’s better tracks historically.
This team will be one to watch — as they have been on fire in 2015. Johnson took the lead late at Brockville on Wednesday night to pick up the 100-lap Super DIRTcar Series win at the Brockville Ontario Speedway. That win marked their eighth of the season, ranked toward the top of the overall Modified wins list with fellow Modified shoe Matt Sheppard.
As a reminder — the Crate Sportsman and Creekside Entertainment Bandits will NOT be on the racing card for the Tuesday, June 2 show presented by S.P. Wilson, Inc.
Racing action will take the green flag on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
One Friday night of weekly competition remains as a final tune up for ‘The Rumble’. The Big Block/Small Block Modifieds will be joined by the Crate Sportsman, M&M Auto Sales & Service IMCA Modifieds, MRC Street Stocks, NAPA Know How 4 Cylinders and Creekside Entertainment Bandits.
The pits open at 4:30 p.m., the grandstands follow at 5 p.m. and race time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
