CORTLAND, N.Y. — Exclusive Story by Race Chaser Online New York Dirt Correspondent Steven Ovens — Curtis Berleue photo —
In a story that has been shared exclusively to RaceChaserOnline.com, the Grit Series Crate Sportsman Modified Series has announced the locations for the Hoosier Tour for 2016.
As was the case in 2015, the series promoted by Dick and Nick Stark will break up their tour schedule into a Hoosier Tour and American Racer Tour. The division of the series was quite popular with competitors in 2015 as teams could choose which tour to focus on depending on the tire they compete with at their home track(s). The tour division tends to split the tour into a North/South style series as most track located in the North region utilize Hoosier Racing tires while most Southern NY dirt tracks utilize the American Racer tire.
The Grit Series Hoosier Tour will include 10 races at the following tracks:
- 2 events at Canandaigua Motorsports Park, starting with the Saturday April 16th Cabin Fever 2 event
- 2 events at Utica-Rome Speedway
- 4 events at Rolling Wheels Raceway
- 1 event at Fonda Speedway
- 1 event at Glen Ridge Motorsports Park
Exact dates for these events will be forthcoming from the Grit Series. Concerning points, one race on the Hoosier Tour will be allowed to be ‘dropped’ for the purposes of Hoosier Tour points.
The American Racer Tour is still be determined, however RaceChaserOnline.com has learned that there will be multiple dates at I-88 Speedway and Thunder Mountain Speedway respectively. We will have full coverage of the American Racer Tour announcement when that information becomes available. With speedways like Black Rock Speedway that currently have an unknown immediate future, that has created some challenges for scheduling the American Racer Tour.
2016 will be the first year for Super Gen Products/Champion Power Equipment to be title sponsor for the Grit Series. Paul Cole and his Newark, NY-based staff are excited to become part of the series as title sponsor. The Super Gen Products/Champion name has become very familiar with dirt racing in the Finger Lakes and looks to only increase in visibility as sponsor for the Crate Sportsman traveling series.
