SEEKONK, Mass. — Story by Race Chaser Online New England correspondent Kyle Souza — Seekonk Speedway photo — The 69th season of racing at Seekonk Speedway is set to come to a close this weekend.

For the first time in the track’s storied history a female champion was crowned, marking the highlight of the season as a whole — but with that said, finale weekend action is on tap and here’s what fans can expect to see.

The Pro Stocks will take center stage this weekend with a special $5,000 to win open competition 100 lap feature event.  The total purse possible for a winner is $7,500 since each lap that is led will pay $25 towards that driver.

Past DAV Pro Stock races have seen both weekly racing regulars and outsiders pick up the win.  Names such as Dave Darling, Freddy Astle and Tom Scully Jr are just a few, all of which plan to be in action this weekend.  Invaders that plan to compete include PASS North regular Derek Ramstrom.

The race will see exciting action from front to back, with regular season front runners trying to cement their name in history.

The Late Models will also be in action with a 50-lap feature event.  Names such as Gerry DeGaspere Jr, Kyle Casper and Ryan Vanasse have won this race in past seasons.  Expect Vanasse and DeGaspere to be strong front runners, along with this years champion Bobby Pelland III.  The Late Models have seen a scarce field at times this year, but a larger purse with lap money is expected to bring additional challengers.

The Street Stocks will also be in action Saturday for a 25 lap feature.  Expect Steve Axon to be among the favorites, with the possibility existing of Ryan Lineham returning to Street Stock action as well.  Ray Lovelace won the season’s track title by being consistent each week, and can now focus solely on going for the win this weekend.

The Sports Trucks and invading Pro 4 Mods will compete in 25 lap features this weekend.  This will be the first time the Pro 4’s have appeared at Seekonk since last season.

Friday will also see the conclusion of the season for the Fast Friday divisions, with the SYRA 600 and 750 classes in action for 20 lap features.  Both of these youth racing classes showcase the up and coming talents of the Speedway and will see a newcomer, yet-t0-be-announced, on Friday night.

The Sport 4 class, Pure Stocks and Nick’s Pit Stop Legends will also compete Friday night. Friday qualifying races will begin at 6 PM, while Saturday will begin at 1 PM.  The rain date for Saturday is slated for Sunday.
