ABINGTON, Mass — official release — Bobby Hayden photo — Nick Lascoula’s weekend started on Friday with his sixth straight Nick’s Pit Stop Legend Cars win in round two of the Phil’s Propane Triple Crown Series at Seekonk.  On Saturday, he turned what could have been a disastrous night into another top five finish in his sharp No. 39 Late Model.

Nick started 16th in the Legend Car race and found himself winging his way through traffic in the early going.  He got to third by lap 7 and passed Jordan Lamothe for second on lap 12.

“Chris Robbins was leading,” Nick explained.  “He and Jordan are both really good racers.  I knew I was going to have to work for it.  I couldn’t really afford to be patient but I also didn’t want to make a mistake and wreck any of us.  Finally, on a restart with about six laps left, I backed up and got a run on him down the back straightaway and got by him.  Winning our first seven races in this car is incredible.  It’s not easy when you’re racing these guys and we have 20 or more cars every Friday!  I’m thankful to be getting so much attention for The 15-40 Connection and I hope everyone will go to their website and make themselves aware of just how many young people between ages 15 and 40 are diagnosed with Cancer every year.  The work they do to raise awareness and encourage us all to be checked is amazing and I’m thankful to be partnered with them and Barrett’s Haunted Mansion on the Legend Car this year.”

After a short celebration, it was time for Nick to turn his attention to Saturday’s Late Model race.

Starting fourth, he was racing with the leaders when he got under Branden Dion and the two cars touched going into turn one.

“That was totally my fault,” Nick said.  “I got a run down the straightaway but I wasn’t in far enough into the corner and we got into each other.  It was a mistake on my part.  Nobody spun out and we all kept going.  He’s hit me several times this year and I’ve let it go, but something told me he wasn’t going to let this go.”

Moments later, Dion proved Nick right.

When Dylan Estrella cleared Dion for third place, Nick attempted to fill the hole and got the nose of his No. 39 up to Dion’s door down the back straightaway.  Dion door slammed Nick and pushed him off the track into the grass.  Nick turned right to get back on the track and got into Dion, actually saving him from spinning.

While the two racers were trying to gather their cars back into shape, Bill Bernard passed them both.  Nick passed Dion.

“Then he (Dion) came from two car lengths back, floored it and drove right into my left rear quarter panel, spinning me out,” Nick picked up the story.  “He got black flagged immediately, but I had to go to the back for spinning.  I was able to get back to fifth, fortunately, but what happened probably cost us both what could have been an even better finish.  Thank you to my team, my sponsors and my fans for their support.  We’ll get back at it next week and see if we can do better.”

Nick will be back in action at Seekonk this coming Friday, trying to go 7 for 7 in the Legend Car.  He’ll also be seeking his first Late Model win on Saturday.
