FULTON, NYofficial track release —

Everyone in attendance Saturday night at the Fulton Speedway walked away seeing one of the best and most wild Tracey Road Equipment DIRTcar Modified features they had ever seen. Not that often when the announcer says “How did you like that one?” does the crowd give a standing ovation like the fans did.

Danny Johnson, Tim Sears Jr., Jimmy Phelps, Billy Decker and Larry Wight throughout the 35-Lap distance put on a bumper-to-bumper, rub rail banging, two and three wide battle royal that saw Johnson grab the victory by a mere .389 of a second over Decker when the checkers waved.

Other winners on the night were, Tyler Meeks, SUNY Canton Sportsman, Alan Fink, NAPA Late Models, Shannon Pitcher, E&V Energy Novice Sportsman and Tim Dunn, Hilton’s Automotive Four-Cylinders.

Danny Johnson out-raced Tim Sears Jr. by a narrow margin to start the 35-Lap Tracey Road Equipment DIRTcar Modified feature.

With five laps complete Johnson opened a ten-car advantage running the top of the speedway. Behind Johnson, Sears and Jimmy Phelps ran side by side for the runner-up spot with Chuck Bower, Jim Witko and Larry Wight in a three car tussle for fourth through sixth.

With battles all over the speedway, attention turned to the front of the pack on Lap-15 when Phelps, who hounded Johnson for many laps, worked his way by Johnson by a nose at the flag stand. One lap later Johnson went back by Phelps.

At the halfway point Johnson and Phelps were still going at it at the front of the field. Sears and Wight were still running hard bumper to bumper and side by side as they tried to close in on the top-two with Chuck Bower showing fifth.

The yellow would wave on Lap-23 when Sears would spin in turn four after contact with Wight.

On the restart Billy Decker looked like he was shot out of a cannon as he went from fifth to second in one move.

With 10-laps to go Johnson, Decker and Wight had everyone in attendance on the edge of their seats as they were using every inch of the speedway running within inches of each other. On Lap-31 Wight made an incredible three wide move coming out of four and banging side rub rails with Johnson at the start-finish line to lead Lap-31. Johnson would later say he did not expect Wight to get the run he did and be on his outside when they banged. One lap later Johnson regained the lead as Decker moved to second.

On Lap-33 Wight saw his strong run and shot at the win end with a rear flat. This would set up a wild dash to the finish.

Over the final two-laps Decker would throw everything he had Johnson, pulling even a couple of times in the dash to the checkers. Johnson had just enough to beat Decker to the finish by 00.389. Jimmy Phelps, Pat Ward and Tom Sears Jr. rounded out the top-five. Chuck Bower, Ryan Phelps, Chris Hile, Tim Sears Jr. and Joe August Jr. completed the top-ten.

In the 25-Lap SUNY Canton Sportsman feature Tony Finch II would shoot from his third starting spot and into the lead to lead the early going of the main. After a couple caution periods Tyler Meeks and Billy Clark Jr. would drive by Finch to take over the top-two spots on a Lap-4 restart.

With 10-Laps showing on the scoring tower Meeks held onto a few car length lead over Clark. Behind the top-two Finch, Earl Rudy and Corey Barker were in a close battle as they kept the leaders in sight.

At the halfway point Meeks and Clark took off and were in a race of their own in first and second. Finch, Rudy and Barker still ran a distant third, fourth and fifth.

Over the last ten-laps Meeks was able to put lapped cars between himself Clark to go onto his first ever Fulton Speedway Sportsman win. Finch, Rudy and Mike Button rounded out the top-five. Wade Chrisman, Joe Kline, Mike Phelps, Brandon Ford and JJ Courcy completed the top-ten.

Alan Fink was the class of the field in the 20-Lap NAPA Late Model feature leading every lap. A caution with three laps to go erased the big lead Fink built up. When the race went back green nobody had anything for Fink as he was the first under the checkers. Sean Beardsley, AJ Kingsley, Johnny Hill and Jason Occhino finished second through fifth.

Shannon Pitcher looked like he was going to dominate the 15-Lap E&V Energy Novice Sportsman feature. In the late going Amy Holland was able to reel in Pitcher for a last lap dash. Exiting turn two Holland was able to pull even with Pitcher using the outside as the pair raced even down the back straight and into turns three and four setting up a drag race to the finish. Pitcher found just enough speed to win by 00.159 of a second. Kelly Smith, Taylor Jackson and Zach Sobotka finished third through fifth.

Skip Degroff and Tim Dunn put on a show in the 15-Lap Hilton’s Automotive Four-Cylinder main. DeGroff and Dunn over the second half of the race ran bumper to bumper and side by side with the winner in doubt until checkers that saw Dunn win by a narrow margin. Justin Buske, Mark Johnston and Colby Herzog chased the top-two across the win.
