SEEKONK, Mass. – official release — Getty Images photo — Tommy Barrett Jr. pocketed $10,000 for winning the special open-wheel modified feature Wednesday evening at Seekonk Speedway.

The majority of the race was dominated by Todd Annarummo, who started from the pole for the 100-lap event. Barrett, who started second, spent the better part of 80 laps looking for ways to overtake Annarummo for the race lead.

The opportunity finally came during a lap 81 restart. Barrett got a great restart on the outside and was able to stay with Annarummo for several laps. Finally on lap 86 Barrett was able to pull his car to the inside of Annarummo and complete the pass for the lead.

One lap later the yellow flag waved for a multi-car accident in turn four. Barrett now had the top spot, with Matt Hirschman now lurking in second after taking that position from Annarummo moments before the caution flag.

Barrett maintained his lead on the restart as Hirschman pulled into second after slight contact with Annarummo. Hirschman hounded Barrett for the next few laps as he looked for a way around. On lap 98 Hirschman attempted to use the outside lane to take the lead, but he got loose and fell back to third as Jon McKennedy took over second position.

That error by Hirschman was all the breathing room Barrett needed as he drove away to the $10,000 payday.

McKennedy was second, followed by Hirschman, Annarummo and Richard Savary.
