Even though the weather outside in New England may be cold, things indoors in Atlantic City, New Jersey are about to heat up quickly.
The NAPA KNOW HOW racing weekend inside the Atlantic City Boardwalk Hall kicks off tomorrow night and both drivers and fans are buzzing.
The 13th annual Gambler’s Classic weekend is slated for the next two days (January 29 and 30) and will be the next of a continuing line of indoor events sponsored and created by Len Sammons Motorsports Productions.
The TQ Midgets will headline the weekend’s events and will conclude Saturday night with the 40-lap Gambler’s Classic. Entries for the event have been filling in for the past few months and the list has grown to over 100 drivers.
New England modified racers such as 2013 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion Ryan Preece and 2014 Stafford Motor Speedway SK modified driver’s champion Ted Christopher have already filed their entries. Preece will be behind the wheel of the NAPA Auto Parts No. 40, while Christopher will pilot the Draco Springs No. 13 midget.
Other names filed in the TQ class include two-time defending Gambler’s Classic winner Anthony Sesely, Justin Bonsignore in a second Ted Christopher entry, Jimmy “Showtime” Blewett, Patrick Emerling, Erick Rudolph, Joey Payne and many many more.
Following a back injury sustained at the Battle of Trenton in December, long-time indoor runner “Liquid” Lou Cicconi will likely not be racing at Atlantic City. Cicconi is listed on the Atlantic City entry list behind the wheel of the No. 66 TQ, however there is no word from the team on if he is well enough to compete or if someone else will be behind the wheel of his ride for the event.
The weekend kicks off tonight with a paid practice session and hauler parking during the evening hours for all of the competitors. Friday will see the Slingshots and Champ Karts join the TQ’s in action. Saturday, the weekend will conclude with the 40-lap Gambler’s Classic.
