BRADFORD, PA — Story and Audio by Race Chaser Online New York Correspondent Steven Ovens — Tom Stevens Photo & Robert Symonds Photo — Back-to-back wins. That has been the story twice so far in 2014 for Jared Zimbardi.
He has already won 4 out of 10 races thus far on the Patriot Sprint Tour. Those races are comprised of both Canadian and American Tour races, races in New York, races in Pennsylvania and races North of the American Border in Ontario. Zimbardi’s wins also include 1 of the 2 double points shows that were on the schedule for 2014. The only other driver to win a double points show you ask? Chuck Hebing- who is only running a partial PST and partial ESS schedule.
“The Juice”, already a 2-time Patriot Sprint Tour champion, has a 192 point lead over Steve Collins in the PST America points race while maintaining a 20 point PST Canadian Series points lead over Alain Bergeron. With his 4 wins this season, Zimbardi has elevated himself to 3rd on the All-Time PST Wins list with 16. He only trails series wins leader and 2-time series champion Chuck Hebing with 39 and 4-time series champion Bryan Howland with 24.
An impressive stat that trumps all of the wins and championships is the number of tally marks Zimbardi owns in the Sportsmanship Award category. 2013 marked the 8th year in a row that Zimbardi was recognized by his peers with the Sportsmanship Award at the Patriot Sprint Tour Championship Banquet. His mechanic Tony Difonzo also received the Mechanic of the Year in 2013.
2014 has brought on success on the PST Tour as well as racing in the state of Pennsylvania. Jared has tested the waters in the 410 Sprint Car world but with the success they have had in the 360 with the Patriots has made it hard to not follow the Patriot Tour. The winner of the PST American Series earns $5,000 while the winner of the PST Canadian Tour earns their team $5,000 as well. If the driver can win both the American and Canadian Series points titles they earn an additional $5,000.
Jared Zimbardi spoke to Turn 5 Podcast Host and Race Chaser Online Correspondent Steven Ovens about the successes of 2014, racing in Pennsylvania and the outlook for the rest of 2014.
