SYRACUSE, NY — Story and Audio by Race Chaser Online Correspondent Steven Ovens — Chad Updegraff Photo — Joe Trenca is known in the Northeast racing world as the ‘Salt City Outlaw’ and they are putting that name to good use this season.

Trenca and his #98 team have loaded up the hauler and have set their GPS South down I-81 to Central Pennsylvania to compete at tracks more familiar to his new crew chief.

Trenca has been a regular with the Empire Super Sprints the past two seasons and has gone through great learning experiences with the best that the Northeastern US and Canada has to offer.  But with a new crew chief that knows the Pennsylvania area well, the team decided it was time to head south to race with the best sprint cars the PA Posse has to offer.

They have three big races this week including Lincoln Speedway, Williams Grove Speedway and Selinsgrove Saturday night. Selinsgrove is a place where Joe had first hand experience of the track’s toughness after seeing the aftermath of a terrible accident involving Jamie Collard and Duane Maustellar.  Collard is now at home resting while Maustellar remains hospitalized as was the latest report from the Empire Super Sprints.

We sat down and talked to the ‘Salt City Outlaw’ about racing sprint cars, the high speeds they will see in Pennsylvania this weekend as well as what safety measures his team employs on the #98.  We also couldn’t close an interview with Joe without a little ribbing that was forwarded from his better half- 305 sprint car competitor Kelly Hebing.  Remember these two names for future reference!
