ELBRIDGE, NY — Story By Race Chaser Online New York Correspondent Steven Ovens — DIRTcar Photo — After what was a rather confusing off-season for race fans surrounding the Rolling Wheels Raceway- the gates will once again swing open this coming Thursday for their first installment of ‘Thursday Night Thunder’.
At the Gater Racing News Motorsports Expo this year, it was announced that a local business owner had purchased the facility and had laid out an ‘every other Sunday’ race schedule with some mega-money shows throughout the season. Details were few and far between that weekend. Race Chaser had an exclusive interview with the new potential owner but was never brought to light at his request because the paperwork was not finalized. The saying ‘Too good to be true’ certainly gained traction when it came to the sale of the speedway.
DIRTcar has never relinquished ownership of the Speedway and promoter Jeff Hachmann is doing Yeoman’s work to get the facility ready for the first installment of ‘Thursday Night Thunder’. While most everything will be the same at Rolling Wheels, Hachmann says that fans will see a new concession stand from the Costa’s Bar and Grille which will offer something a little different than what they are used to seeing at the Elbridge 5/8 mile oval.
On tap for the first ‘Thursday Night Thunder’ event will be a $2,000-to-win 35-Lap Big-Block Modified feature, a 20-Lap DIRTcar Sportsman Modified race and a 15-Lap DIRTcar Stock Car feature event. Don’t be surprised to see a star-studded field of Modifieds for this show as it serves as a tune-up for the July 3rd Stars and Stripes Summer Super Show. That night will feature the best one-night ticket in town- the Super DIRTcar Series Modifieds and Night #2 of the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints Central New York Speedweek 2014. Stewart Friesen is confirmed to be pulling double-duty July 3rd driving both a DIRTcar Modified and Doug Emery’s #33 ESS Sprint Car.
Another great promotion for the first ‘Thursday Night Thunder’ event will be the ability of race fans to save $3 off the set price for admission for this great show. If a fan brings a 2014 ticket stub from their favorite DIRTcar sanctioned track, they will pay only $15 for general admission. Pit area fees will stand at $20 for DIRTcar Members and $25 for non-members. Pit gates open at 4pm, Grandstands open at 5pm with race time slated for 7:30pm.
