September 27 – Audio/Story By RaceChaser Online Senior Editor Tom Baker – Michael Barnes has been considered by many to be one of the most talented young racers in the Oswego Speedway’s pit area.  Having been successful both in the Small Block Super (SBS) class and the Supermodified division, Michael landed a ride with Strong Racing a couple of years back and has made the most of it, with two wins and several top five finishes.

For 2014, a new team comprised of several familiar faces is forming.  Long-time team owners Gary and Eric Syrell are partnering with top car builder Joey Hawksby to field a Hawk Chassis “house car”.  They have tapped Barnes as their top choice to wheel the No. 08 Supermodified next season.

Michael sat down with Tom Baker to talk about the change and what racing for Pat and Terry Strong has meant to him.  He said that while he sees the opportunity as being too good to pass up, it wasn’t easy saying goodbye to his “Plum Crazy” racing “family”.

No word yet as to who might replace Barnes in the potent No. 99.  This is the first move of what could be a very interesting “silly season” at Oswego, with several changes to the roster in both divisions already taking shape for next year.
