BULLS GAP, Tenn. — After talking with officials from the Carolina Clash Super Late Model Series, “Border Wars at The Gap” scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 8 at Volunteer Speedway has been canceled due to a conflict with a Super Late Model show in East Tennessee at another track that later scheduled on the same date.

“When we released our 2016 racing schedule back on Dec. 10, 2015 (http://volunteerspeedway.com/2015/12/10/volunteer-speedway-releases-tentative-2016-race-schedule/), we had carefully made certain no other Super Late Model touring series events were already scheduled in East Tennessee on Saturday, Oct. 8 – and there were no other races scheduled,” said Volunteer Speedway owners Joe and Phyllis Loven. “The sole reason we had scheduled a date with the Carolina Clash Super Late Model Series for Saturday, Oct. 8 was because it wouldn’t conflict with any other track. Then back in the spring, another series and track schedules a race for the same date that we already had scheduled.

“Volunteer Speedway and the other track are within reasonable driving distance of each other, and with drivers and race teams looking each week at races they can compete in that pays the bigger purse, in having two (touring series Super Late Model) races on top of one another all it’s going to do is divide both cars and race fans. With the decline in car count for Super Late Models over the past few years, there are just not enough cars in this region alone to have two touring series special events the same night. We regret in having to cancel our scheduled race, but it’s just a matter of what makes most sense financially in operating a racetrack. Overall we’ve had a very good racing season at ‘The Gap,’ and we want to thank both fans and race teams for coming out to support us.”
