BROOKLYN, Mich. — A caution coming to three laps to go in Stage 2 of Saturday’s Irish Hills 250 afforded Elliott Sadler an opportunity to stay out on-track, and ultimately, a playoff point towards the NASCAR XFINITY Series championship.

After debris drew the yellow flag and race leaders Brad Keselowski and Denny Hamlin dropped to pit lane in an effort to set themselves up for the race win, Sadler hung tough behind the pace car and coasted around for his third stage win of the season.

“We had to do that,” Sadler said. “We had to stay out and get that championship point. That’s what it’s all about when we get to the playoffs. We had to be aggressive and do something just a little bit different then Brad and Denny.”

“Track position is very important, if we can catch the cautions correctly or play the fuel mileage game. We’re going to have to be aggressive here and make something happen.”

Multiple series regulars joined Sadler’s strategy in order to bolster their points totals in the regular season championship, with Chevrolet sweeping the top nine spots in the final Stage 2 results.

Brennan Poole and Justin Allgaier finished second and third, respectively; followed by Brendan Gaughan and Blake Koch.

Brandon Jones, Ross Chastain, Harrison Rhodes, Josh Williams and Hamlin completed the top 10.
