SPARTA, Ky. — Matt Tifft returns to the same track where he made his XFINITY Series return last fall at the 1.5-mile Kentucky Speedway.

Now contending for a title in his first-full XFINITY season, Tifft started off his weekend in a big way by turning the fastest lap in the first of two practices Friday at the Kentucky track, circling around the speedway at 29.929 seconds (180.427 mph).

The speeds picked up during the session as Tifft was the only driver to run a speed faster than 180 mph.

Brian Scott is back behind the wheel of the No. 3 Daniel Defense Chevrolet and posted the second-fastest time in his final scheduled start of 2017. Ryan Preece makes his second Kentucky start Saturday night and was third in the No. 20 Toyota.

Brandon Jones (178.288 mph) slotted in fourth while Chicagoland winner Justin Allgaier (178.271 mph) completed the top-five.

Ben Kennedy returns to the seat of the No. 2 Rheem Chevrolet after pacing practice early on and ended up sixth. Defending race winner Elliott Sadler, Tyler Reddick, Spencer Gallagher and Brennan Poole rounded out the rest of the top-10.

The NASCAR XFINITY Series has one more 55-minute practice session Friday evening at 6:30 p.m. ET (NBCSN).
