Scott Steckly didn’t leave any room for doubt and showed once again how good he can be on oval tracks.

Steckly became just the third driver in the history of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 to lead every lap in a win. Driving his No. 22 Canadian Tire Dodge to Victory Lane in the Alberta Has Energy 300 at Edmonton International Raceway, Steckly became the first to accomplish the feat on an oval.

The Milverton, Ont., Canada native had to hold off defending series champion L.P. Dumoulin and Jason Hathaway in a five-lap sprint to the finish after the 10th caution flag of the race set up the late dash. Earlier in the day, Steckly won the pole position for the series’ second race on the banked quarter mile.

The three-time champion pushed his career win total to 17 and also increased his record for career laps led to 4,263.

D.J. Kennington finished fourth with Marc-Antoine Camirand fifth.

Andrew Ranger, the last driver to win after leading every lap (in 2013), came home sixth with Alex Tagliani and Joey McColm seventh and eighth. James Von Domselaar started on the front row alongside Steckly and finished ninth, with Gary Klutt rounding out the top 10.

Steckly became the fifth different driver to win in five races this season. Hathaway, who rallied from a lap down, maintained his championship points lead by one over Steckly and eight over Klutt. Dumoulin is 11 back and Kennington rounds out the top five, 15 behind Hathaway.

The series will conclude its western swing with the Velocity Prairie Thunder 250 on Wednesday at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway in Saskatoon, Sask.

The Alberta Has Energy 300 will air on TSN on Saturday, July 18 at 2:30 p.m. ET, and also on RDS2 on Friday, July 31 at 8 p.m.
