FRASERVILLE, Ont., Canada — By Jason Christley, NASCAR — Defending race champion Scott Steckly posted the fastest lap of practice Saturday afternoon at Kawartha Speedway in advance of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 season finale.
Steckly’s No. 22 Canadian Tire/AW Millwrights Dodge had a lap of 17.692 seconds (76.306 mph) around the .375-mile banked oval.
Championship points leader LP Dumoulin was 13th fastest, while challenger JR Fitzpatrick was sixth. Dumoulin enters the Pinty’s 250 with a 16-point lead and will clinch the championship with a finish of 11th or better.
Jeff Lapcevich was second quick in practice at 17.719 (76.189), followed by Jim White at 17.790 (75.885). Alex Tagliani and Jason Hathaway rounded out the top five.
Fitzpatrick, Andrew Ranger, Steve Mathews, Mark Dilley and Joey McColm completed the top 10. The top 11 speeds in the final 30-minute session were all faster than Ranger’s lap of 17.915 (75.356) that paced the first 30-minute practice.
Qualifying is slated for 3 p.m. and the Pinty’s 250 will take the green at 5 p.m.
