CUP: Larson Completes Ganassi Practice Sweep At Kentucky

SPARTA, Ky. — Both Chip Ganassi Racing teams are off to a roaring start this weekend at Kentucky Speedway.

After Jamie McMurray paced opening practice, Kyle Larson made it a CGR sweep by turning the fastest lap in final practice. Larson’s time of 28.695 seconds (188.184 mph) was the fastest of the day with speed close to Brad Keselowski’s track qualifying record set in 2014.

Larson also had the fastest 10-lap average among 15 cars making the run. Martin Truex Jr. slotted his No. 78 Furniture Row Racing Toyota in second (187.188 mph) as one of two Toyotas in the top-five. Chase Elliott was third (186.903 mph) followed by Wood Brothers Racing driver Ryan Blaney fourth (186.458 mph).

Win-less so far in 2017, Kyle Busch completed the top-five in final practice with a lap of 28.991 seconds (186.265 mph) leading the Joe Gibbs Racing organization. The top-six in the session all ran a time under 29 seconds, including 2012 Kentucky pole-sitter Jimmie Johnson (28.999 seconds).

Matt Kenseth and Jamie McMurray (186.091) tied for the seventh-fastest speed after McMurray led Friday morning’s first practice.

Darrell Wallace Jr. was ninth (185.938 mph) as another Ford driver in Clint Bowyer (185.88 mph) rounded out the top-10.

All 40 cars made a lap and no drivers will go home during Coors Light Pole Qualifying which is set to take place at 6 p.m. ET (NBCSN, PRN).
