January 5, 2014 — RaceChaser staff report via F1 analyst Joel Sebastianelli — EPA/Ercole Colombo photo — GRENOBLE, France – Former and seven-time Formula One World Champion Michael Schumacher remains in a medically induced coma one week after a suffering serious injuries in a skiing accident in the French Alps.
Schumacher, who turned 45 in the hospital on Friday, remains critical but stable. The German suffered severe head trauma during the accident last Sunday and has since undergone two separate operations to relieve swelling and pressure to his brain.
Friday, Schumacher’s family turned over a helmet camera that Schumacher was wearing during the accident to investigators looking into the incident. It is not known at this time if the camera was turned on at the time or what investigators may be looking for.
An update to Schumacher’s condition is expected sometime Monday.
