After a seventh place finish on Saturday, Peyton was determined to find some additional speed in his machine so he worked late into the nighttime hours tinkering with it.
The youngster was wearing a look of satisfaction Sunday afternoon. “My crew and I put a lot of hard work on the car and the results showed,” Peyton grinned. “My car was hooked up all day and was probably the best handling car I have driven in a while. We went from sixth to third in the first turn and raced hard with fourth and fifth the whole way. That was a lot of fun!”
Reflecting on Saturday’s race, which saw him running with the top five before he slipped off the track, fell to ninth and battled his way back to seventh, Peyton said “Saturday was a pretty good day for my team and I. We were fast and had a lot of confidence for a top five. Unfortunately I made a big mistake and got off-track for a bit there and cost us a shot at our goal. But the car was actually pretty good. I just felt like there was more in it and that’s why we put in the time last night to prepare for today. I’m glad we did!”
This coming weekend, Peyton goes back to oval track racing as he and the team travel to the Lucas Oil I-10 Speedway in Blythe, Ca.
