The New London-Waterford Speedbowl has been the sight for weekly Legend Car action in Connecticut for multiple racing seasons. The division puts some on intense side-by-side racing during the Thursday Night Thunder program and always puts on a show for the fans.

On Tuesday, INEX/US Legend Cars announced that the 2016 edition of the Legends Nationals would be taking place at the Shoreline oval. Even though during the driver’s meeting for the Legends on Sunday it was mentioned to driver’s, an official announcement came from INEX.

Weekly New London-Waterford driver Jordan Churchill, who was the 2015 champion in the INEX Legend Cars division, said he was mre than ready to do battle with the best in the country. “I am very excited,” Churchill told Race Chaser Online. “It is a very special thing to be able to host the Nationals at my home track. The challenges it brings are the best of the best coming from all over the country to race against us and you know they are all fast so it will be hard to adjust to their driving and their skills,” he said.

Not only is Churchill excited about the chance to compete with the best, but so is 2015 Seekonk Speedway Legends champion Jordan Lamothe, who will be filling an entry for the weekend affair next season.

“I’m just as excited as everyone else! It’s gonna be good for the Legend Car drivers from up here when we get people from all over the country and the world up here for the race,” Lamothe said.

“Waterford is a tricky track. It’s always changing with different divisions that go on the track with the rubber they lay down. The track seems to change during the day so it will be tough for a lot of people. They have great people there, Shawn Monahan does an outstanding job and the new ownership has changed the track completely. It’s going to be great for the track and we all owe our thank you to Shawn for signing the paperwork and giving us all the opportunity to have the New England drivers show their talent to the people around the country,” the driver of the No. 16 said.

After competing at the Speedbowl on Sunday, long-time successful Legends driver Devin O’Connell, who has won races up and down the East Coast, may be on the move up to a Late Model in 2016 — but he still is excited for the Nationals.

“Its super cool to have the Nationals at Waterford next year. I’m not sure if i’m going to race it since I am moving to late models but it will be a great event for New England racing and for budget Northeast racers to shine! The Speedbowl is not an easy track its flat and fast and it will definitely stir up the competition,” O’Connell said.

Although the dates have not been put into ink yet, it is expected that it will be happening sometime in October of 2016.
