The driver of the No. 20 Axtel/HP/M Racing Toyota turned in a quick lap of 19.294 seconds, good for an average speed of 115.939 mph. Richards is one of the 12 Desafio drivers competing for the series’ 2014 crown.

Rogelio López was second-fastest around the .625-mile oval with a time of 19.321 seconds (115.777 mph), followed by the top-seeded Desafio driver Daniel Suárez, Irwin Vences, Rubén Rovelo, Rubén García, Rubén Pardo, José Luis Ramírez, Abraham Calderón and Hugo Oliveras.

Qualifying is scheduled for Sunday at 9 a.m. CT with the Chihuahua 240, the first of five races in the series’ playoff round, programmed for a 12:45 p.m. start.
