ST-EUSTACHE, Que. – By Jason Cunningham, NASCAR — Matthew Manor/Getty Images for NASCAR photo — Alex Labbe proved to be a quick study Saturday afternoon as he led the way in National 250 practice in his first NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 oval appearance.
Labbe, from St-Albert, Quebec, posted a fast lap of 17.217 seconds (83.638 mph) around the .4-mile flat oval at Autodrome St-Eustache to lead the way in Saturday’s final session.
The 19-year-old has six previous Canadian Tire Series starts, all road course events. He ranked seventh on the speed chart in first practice.
Defending series champion and National 250 winner Scott Steckly finished second on the board in final practice at 17.232 (83.565), followed by Alex Tagliani at 17.253 (83.464).
D.J. Kennington led the day’s first 30-minute practice at 17.420 (82.664), followed by J.R. Fitzpatrick at 17.453 (82.507) and Steckly at 17.458 (82.484).
Pole qualifying is slated for 4:15 p.m. ET and the National 250 will go green at 8 p.m.
