INDIANAPOLIS – official release — Eric Schwarzkopf photo — Marc Marquez continued his dominant MotoGP season by setting the pace during practice Friday afternoon at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course.

Defending World Champion Marquez registered a 1:32.882 lap towards the end of free practice two to end the day on top, shaving more than 1.5 seconds off his best lap from the morning. Andrea Iannone and Jorge Lorenzo were respectively .222 of a second and .542 of a second behind Marquez.

Marquez will attempt to win his 10th straight MotoGP event this weekend at IMS.

In the morning session as the riders got a feel for the slightly shorter new MotoGP Indianapolis layout – with several modified corners and a resurfaced infield area – a 1:34.535 lap had been enough to put Valentino Rossi top of the timesheet. Rossi was ninth best in free practice two, trailing pace setter Marquez by .716 of a second.

The free practice two top five was completed by the experienced pair of Andrea Dovizioso and Dani Pedrosa, both off them just more than half a second off Marquez’s time.

The Friday top 10 was completed by Stefan Bradl, Yonny Hernandez, Aleix Espargaro, the aforementioned Rossi and Bradley Smith.
