MARINA BAY, Singapore – official release — Mercedes photo — Lewis Hamilton held off Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg by just 0.007 seconds for his sixth pole of the Formula One season at Marina Bay Street Circuit on Saturday.

Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo and Sebastian Vettel were third and fourth in advance of Sunday’s Singapore Grand Prix, while Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso fended off Williams’ Felipe Massa to take fifth.

Alonso’s teammate, Kimi Raikkonen, was seventh. Valtteri Bottas (Williams), Kevin Magnussen (McLaren) and Daniil Kvyat (Toro Rosso) rounded out the 10 cars who advanced to the knockout round. McLaren’s Jenson Button just missed out and will roll off 11th.

Only Ricciardo – who is also the lone non-Mercedes driver to win in 2014 – managed to finish time trials within 0.2 seconds of the dominant Mercedes pair.
