In addition to piloting his own race cars, Brandon Oakley is delving into the world of driver development. With four entries at his disposal, Oakley has reserved at least one of those for an up and coming driver: Kevin Mingus.

Mingus, the 2014 Buckeye Super Sprint Series Champion, will look to add to his resume in the world of full-fendered machines with Brandon Oakley Racing. The 20-year-old from Huron, Ohio will make select appearances in the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance for BOR. His first race is tentatively slated for the Memorial Day Holiday Weekend on Saturday, May 23 at Columbus (Ohio) Motor Speedway.

“I would like to thank Brandon Oakley for this great opportunity to partner with him to help advance my racing career,” he said.

“I am very excited to be racing with Brandon Oakley Racing and I am looking forward to a successful upcoming season.” Mingus stated upon finalizing the deal with Oakley for 2015. “I would also like to thank my mom, dad, uncle, girlfriend, friends and family for all of the love and support continuing through 2015 and beyond.”

The 2014 campaign was a banner year for Mingus behind the wheel of a Winged Sprint Car as he picked up his first career Feature Win in the high-powered machines on his way to five total victories in 11 races on his way to the series championship. In 2009 when, then 14, he made his debut in the open-wheeled machines in 305 Sprint Cars before moving up to the Buckeye Super Sprint Series scoring the 2011 Rookie of the Year title in the process.

Mingus’ career started in Go-Karts in 2005 at the age of 11. In 2007 he won the Sandusky Speedway Asphalt Gold Plate Series Points Championship at the age of 13 before moving up to the Winged Sprint Cars.

“We are very excited to have Kevin run in some races this coming year for Brandon Oakley Racing. Hopefully we can get him some solid runs and maybe even a win by the end of the year,” added Oakley. “Kevin has done a great job in Winged Sprint Cars over the past several seasons and hopefully it’ll be a smooth transition for him to go from those to a full bodied racecar.”

As for Oakley himself, he’ll get his 2015 season started on Jan. 24-25 with the high-profile kick off to the race season; SpeedFest 2015 at Watermelon Capital Speedway, located south of Macon and north of the Florida/Georgia state line in Cordele, Georgia. Oakley will race on the fast 0.400 mile semi-banked paved oval in the headlining 200-lap main for the ARCA/CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS.
