Austin Cindric has tackled a lot of new challenges over his still-young motorsports career.
From Red Bull Global Rallycross and USF2000 to the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge and even V8 Supercars, the 17-year-old Columbus, Ohio native has done quite a bit in a very short period of time.
One thing Cindric hadn’t done, however, was tackle a 1.5-mile superspeedway-style race track in a stock car — until Tuesday, when he tested the No. 99 Cunningham Motorsports Ford at Kentucky Speedway in advance of Friday’s Crosley Brands 150 for the ARCA Racing Series.
Cindric landed sixth on the overall speed charts, with a best lap of 31.458 seconds (171.657 mph), and was also the fastest Ford during the two-part session — outpacing Will Kimmel (seventh) and NASCAR XFINITY Series regular Ryan Reed (10th) among those ‘Blue Oval’ drivers in the top 10.
The talented teenager will make his second ARCA start on Friday, after he qualified and finished fourth at Iowa Speedway in July, leading 29 of the race’s 159 laps.
Cindric caught up with Race Chaser Online Wednesday morning to discuss his experience in testing on Tuesday and what he feels his chances are heading into Friday’s 150-mile event — hear from the young star below!
