October 15, 2013 – A new regional 305 Sprint Car Series has been formed under the ASCS Sanctioning banner in the heart of NASCAR country. This affordable and exciting series will be focused on dirt tracks in North and South Carolina but races in Virginia and Georgia are possible in 2014.
Carolina racer Shawn Mott has been laying the groundwork for the new venture and has now passed the baton over to new owner and director Tom Baker. Tom says the foundational work Shawn has done has given the series a strong head start. “Shawn has really worked hard to get this new series off the ground. He’s already put together a number of product sponsors and he’s had discussions with several track promoters about scheduling races next year. We can confirm that on May 17, 2014 we’ll be at Sumter Speedway in Sumter, South Carolina and a sponsor has been secured for that night which will be announced shortly. I’ve also spoken to several other promoters who are interested in having us next year but need to wait until their current seasons are over to confirm dates. All signs are pointing to a strong first season for the series and its racers.”
As to the transition, Tom explains that Shawn wanted to get things up and running and then step back so he could focus on racing in the series. “I called Shawn just to inquire about what was going on with this project so I could write a story for our RaceChaser Online news site. Shawn was looking for the right person to take control of the series and build it out for the racers. The more we talked the more we realized that with the other assets I can bring to the table in terms of experience and marketing support this was a natural fit. I’m excited to be doing it and looking forward to giving area race fans an exciting and entertaining series that also works well for the racers and tracks.”
