April 28, 2014 – official release — ARCA photo — SALEM, Ind. – The good news for Frank Kimmel is that the No. 44 Ansell-Menards Toyota left Salem Speedway Sunday in second place in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards driver point standings.

“It was a good point day for us,” Kimmel said after his third-place finish. “But, we’re still behind Grant, who just keeps on winning.”

Kimmel extended his top 10 streak to 34 consecutive races in Sunday’s Federated Auto Parts 200 presented by Crunch ’N Nutter at Salem Speedway Fueled by the Hoosier Lottery. It was the 95th all-time ARCA race at the historic, half-mile oval track.

Kimmel had an eventful weekend to say the least. He slapped the Salem wall during qualifying on Saturday – hard enough that his team had to stay late and came to the track early Sunday to work on the car and prepare it for the race.

Kimmel had to start at the back of the field, but worked his way into the top 10, then had a chance to challenge for the win after a late caution led to a green-white-checker finish.

“For a minute there, I thought us old guys were going to finish 1-2,” Kimmel said, referring to him and fellow veteran Ken Schrader. “But, it wasn’t meant to be.

“I have to thank all of the guys for getting the car ready. It was way tight to start the race, but that was my fault for what happened in qualifying. We passed so many cars today. I’m sure no one passed more cars than I did. I got passed a lot, today, too, though.”

Kimmel said what his team was able to do was a sign of a championship-caliber team.

“Win-Tron Racing is a good team and we have good cars,” he said. “This is what we have to do – keep digging. We worked on the car all day and the car was good. We just didn’t have enough at the end.”

The International Motorsports Hall of Fame 200 at Talladega Superspeedway is next up on the ARCA Racing Series schedule. The race will air live on FOX Sports 1 at 11:00 a.m. Eastern Saturday, May 3 as part of a quadruple header.
