(TOLEDO, Ohio – April 1, 2014) – By Don Radebaugh, ARCA PR — ARCA photo — Ken Schrader has filed an entry for the next race on tour – the Federated Auto Parts 200 presented by Crunch’N Nutter at Salem Speedway Fueled by the Hoosier Lottery April 27.
Schrader finished fourth at Salem last September behind race winner/rookie Kyle Benjamin, rookie Kyle Weatherman and veteran Frank Kimmel.
Prior to Schrader’s start at Salem in 2013, the Fenton, Missouri driver hadn’t raced there since April 2009 when he finished fifth.
“We usually go to watch every year when we have a car in the show, but, I have to tell you, it’s hard to sit there and watch,” Schrader said. “Salem’s the kind of track where you want to be in the driver’s seat. Racing at Salem is its own deal – it’s a heck of a show.”
Schrader has 17 career ARCA victories but just one at Salem in 1999.
“I’ve always loved the place; I don’t know anyone who doesn’t. When you look at the history behind it and all the tradition that comes with Salem, it’s just hard to keep passing up.
“Salem is a special place. There are just not too many tracks like it left that have the banks, the speed, the character. It’s different than just another circle, especially when you consider all the people who have raced there over the years.
“It really is about the tradition. You can build a new race track, but you just can’t build that tradition that fast.”
The Federated Auto Parts 200 presented by Crunch’N Nutter, the 95th ARCA race at Salem since 1955, is scheduled to get the green flag Sunday afternoon, April 27 just after 2:00 p.m. local time.
Two practice sessions precede Sunday’s race activity on Saturday, April 26 at 12 noon and at 1:15. Menards Pole Qualifying presented by Ansell rolls off at 3:30 Saturday. An on-track autograph session accompanies pre-race festivities Sunday from 11:30 – 12:30. Driver introductions follow at 2.
