STATESVILLE, N.C. — Ryan Millington came oh-so-close to his fourth and fifth NASCAR Whelen All-American Series wins of the season on Saturday at Hickory Motor Speedway, finishing second in twin 40-lap events at the historic .363-mile North Carolina short track.

Millington scored the poles for both races in two-lap time trials, but just came up a touch short in race trim, running a strong second to track veteran and current points leader Dexter Canipe Jr. in both sprints.

“We were just missing that last little bit,” Millington said. “We had a really good race car in both races over the weekend, and I was really happy with the handling. We laid down two really good laps in qualifying and I hate we couldn’t quite turn those into wins. I think we had enough to do it and it was just a few little things that kept us from being that last little bit better.”

“It’s still a great outing for us though, and I’m optimistic we can get a few wins before the end of the season. Thanks to my dad and all the guys on the crew that help make this car go fast each week, as well as my sponsor TAO TAO USA. We’ll be back in victory lane soon.”

By virtue of the two second-place finishes, Millington continues to hold down second place in both the track’s overall late model point standings as well as the Paramount Kia mini-series standings.

Millington was also in action in his SKE mini-outlaw kart on the dirt last Wednesday at Millbridge Speedway, running solidly in the top 10 of the Open class A-Main before late-race problems with three laps to go derailed him to a DNF in 16th.
