TOOELE, Utah — By Jason Christley, NASCAR — Getty Images for NASCAR photo — David Mayhew waited until the end to take the top spot on the board in Saturday’s practice for the EnergySolutions Utah Grand Prix.
In his second to last lap on the 2.2-mile road course, Mayhew posted the fastest lap in NASCAR K&N Pro Series West practice at Miller Motorsports Park. Mayhew’s lap of 1 minute, 34.577 seconds, knocked Greg Pursley off the top of the board.
Pursley, who has three wins and a second in the last four races at Miller, had the fastest lap for nearly the entire 1 hour, 45 minute session. Pursley’s lap of 1:34.750 (83.588) wound up being second best. He ran just six laps.
Rookie James Bickford was third quick at 1:34.789 (83.554), followed by Brandon McReynolds and Bickford’s teammate, Dylan Lupton.
Austin Cameron, Brett Thompson, Dave Smith, Taylor Cuzick and Todd Souza rounded out the top 10.
Qualifying will be road course, group style beginning at 1:20 p.m. MT, with the green flag for the Utah Grand Prix scheduled for 4:35 p.m.
