Johnny Bridges proved he is unfazed by the 410 c.i. motors of the Must See Racing Sprint Car Series presented by Engine Pro (MSRSCS) Midwestern invaders, posting the fastest lap of Friday afternoon’s pair of practice sessions at Anderson Motor Speedway with a Ford Performance 360 c.i. motor in his No. 07 sprinter.
The Cherryville, N.C. top gun went to the top of the board in the first round of practice with a lap of 13.297 seconds (101.527 mph), and the time held up despite the fact that Bridges elected to sit out the final session.
The Anderson event is both the season-opening event for Must See Racing and the first round of the six-race American Sprint Cup mini-series, which will crown a champion in addition to the Must See Racing national title this season.
Close behind Bridges was a bevy of drivers who posted their fast laps in the later round, led by two-time MSRSCS champion Brian Gerster. The Fishers, Indiana native wheeled the No. 50M “Mopar Missile” to a time of 13.311 seconds (101.420 mph) around the three-eighths mile oval.
Last year’s Hickory Motor Speedway race winner, National Sprint Car Hall of Famer Jeff Bloom, was third-quick (13.431/100.514) in the No. 26 Eldora Speedway mount. Bloom is continuing a five-decade sprint car career and looking for his second career MSRSCS win come feature time.
Defending series champion Jimmy McCune (13.451/100.364) and Ike Beasley (13.478/100.163) were the balance of the ‘Fast Five’.
The first session of practice was delayed by roughly a half hour when Jay Dunham’s No. 51 lost an oil line during its warm-up laps, causing extensive cleanup in turns three and four.
Qualifying for the Must See Racing Sprint Car Series is slated for 7 p.m. local time.
