Daniel Hemric proved to be a quick study Saturday at Greenville Pickens Speedway when he captured the Coors Light Pole Award in his NASCAR K&N Pro Series East debut.

The Kannapolis, North Carolina, native turned a fast lap of 20.796 seconds (86.555 mph) as the next-to-last car to qualify, and earned tonight’s top starting position behind the wheel of the No. 20 California Clean Power Chevrolet.

William Byron will join Hemric in the front row tonight after his lap of 20.814 (86.480) was second fastest. J.J. Haley’s (20.850/86.331) and Kaz Grala’s  (20.931/85.977) respective qualifying runs placed them in the second row on the starting grid.

Ronnie Bassett Jr., Austin Hill, Rico Abreu, Scott Heckert, Dillon Bassett and Dalton Sargeant rounded out the top 10 qualifiers.

A veteran of six NASCAR Camping World Truck Series races and 12 combined starts between NASCAR’s two Whelen Modified Tours, polesitter Hemric will attempt to secure his first NASCAR-sanctioned victory tonight when the Kevin Whitaker Chevrolet 150 takes the green flag at 8 p.m.
