The Stafford Motor Speedway has announced that the Legend Cars will be returning to competition at Stafford for their second straight season in 2015.
The Legends will be a weekly part of the Stafford program on Friday nights.
Last season, the Legends returned to Stafford for the first time in over twenty years, on a limited basis. The car counts were solid and the fan base that came to support them was crucial to the success. The Speedway partnership with US Legend Cars International and INEX will allow them to bring the division back on a weekly basis next season — competing in 23 Friday night races in 2015.
In 2014, the division was mostly dominated by brothers Dana and Cory DiMatteo, who both picked up multiple wins and were a threat right from the first race, where they finished first and second.
“It’s very exciting any time you can close out a track championship any year,” said Dana DiMatteo following her 2014 Stafford track championship in the Legends division. “This is number three between Waterford and Stafford so I’m happy about that and it’s nice to finish things out since I think we led since the first race of the year. All in all it was a good year for us.”
There were four different winners last season in the division including both DiMatteo’s, Mike Christopher Jr. and Brendon Bock. All of those drivers are expected to compete in the class next season in some capacity.
