The 2015 Grit Hoosier Series will kick off with the Cabin Fever 64 on Friday and Saturday April 17 and 18 at the Canandaigua Motorsports Park.

Friday night will give the competitors several timed hot lap sessions that will allow them to test and tune on their cars to find speed to get around ‘The Land of Legends’.  The fastest 2 times of the night’s sessions will earn starting spots 6 and 4 into Saturday night’s Grit Series A-Main.  Those fast timers will also earn $50 each from Creekside Entertainment DJ, Photo Booth and Uplighting.

Saturday’s A-Main will kick off the Grit Racing Hoosier Series and will be 64 laps in length.  The winner will receive a minimum of $1,000 with drivers receiving $100 just to take the green flag.  As event sponsors come in, those numbers may continue to rise.

This event takes place on Jan Corcoran Memorial weekend — a weekend dedicated to the memory of promoter Jeremie Corcoran’s mother Jan. This has always been a very special weekend at CMP and 2015 looks to be no different. The addition of the Grit Racing Series to the event has brought a lot of excitement and a desire to make this event live up to its namesake.

One way that will happen is a promotion that has teamed the Grit Racing Series with Canandaigua Motorsports Park, the cast from Turn 5 Live and Grit Series competitor Nick Guererri.

The team has begun the process of acquiring lap sponsorships for the 64-lap event, as well as forming an impressive list of contingency sponsors that have donated cash prizes and products including:

  • Mahaney Racing Shocks: (1) free shock repair for the Hard Luck Award
  • Gevo’s Rears & Gears: $100 cash for the Hard Charger Award
  • zero3 Motorsports/Zach Aubertine: $200 award for Longest Tow Award
  • Macedon Parts Plus: case of oil/filter to Top 3 finishers
  • Trick Race Parts: (1) roof and (1) hood to a random finisher
  • Henry Stainless Exhaust Systems: $100 cash OR $150 product certificate to the 5th place finisher
  • Number 9 Video: Copy of the weekend’s events to all heat winners
  • Draco Springs: 1 free spring to random finisher
  • Hoosier Racing Tire: 1 free tire to a random finisher
  • 2 Fastest Times from Friday’s Hot Lap Session get spots 6 and 4 in Saturday’s A-Main and collect $50 each from Creekside Entertainment DJ, Photo Booth and Uplighting
  • Promotion Custom Metal Fab: (1) Set of Doors, (1) set of Quarters
  • Troyer Race Cars: $150 Credit, Hat and T-Shirt to Highest Finishing Troyer
  • Teo-Pro Car: $150 Credit, Hat and T-Shirt to Highest Finishing Teo
  • Bicknell Racing Products: $150 Credit, Hat and T-Shirt to Highest Finishing Bicknell
  • HigFab Chassis: $150 Credit, Hat and T-Shirt to Highest Finishing HigFab

The lead in starting lap money and contingencies came from Grit Racing Series competitor and Canandaigua Motorsports Park regular Nick Guererri.

“CMP is home to some of the best sportsman drivers and racing in the northeast. CMP regulars squaring off with GRIT series outsiders will make for one heck of an event,” said Guererri. “A huge car count with a packed grandstand is what we’re looking for and pairing the Grit series with the big block Jan Corcoran Memorial should do just that!  Sportsman teams deserve some recognition and that’s what they’ll get with a nice paying purse, lap money, and contingency prizes.  It will be a win win for everyone involved.”

For Grit Racing Series Promoters Dick and Nick Stark, the event and teaming up with Guererri was a slam dunk.

“Guererri (Nick) has been a supporter since year 1 and when he came forth on the Canandaigua show to want to put it together and fatten it up, dad and I knew it was a no brainer. He’s a respected racer and a likable guy, hard to say no to that!”

Canandaigua Motorsports Park is looking forward to the weekend as well as having the Grit Series onboard for the Cabin Fever 64 event.

“Canandaigua Motorsports Park is extremely excited about the 2015 season’s 5th Annual Jan Corcoran Memorial Weekend on April 17th and 18th,” said CMP Marketing/PR Director Greg Emerson.

“The previous 4 years have been huge with the 64 lap, $6,400 to win Big Block race.  In 2015 we have partnered up with the GRIT Hoosier Series and are adding the first annual 64 lap “Cabin Fever” Sportsman event making it even bigger!  We anticipate the payout for the GRIT race to be $6,400 also, maybe more. We are grateful to have Turn 5, Dick/Nick Stark, and Nick Guererri getting sponsors and lap money for this event.  This will be a must see show at the “Land of Legends” to get the season rolling!”

“This event is going to be big for the Grit Series as well as for CMP,” added Turn 5 Live Host Steven Ovens. “If you’re a Crate Sportsman driver, there isn’t any reason why you shouldn’t be racing at Canandaigua on April 17th and 18th.  There is a nice purse up for grabs and an opportunity to double that take home in Lap Sponsorship cash and prizes.”

Those wishing to participate in the lap sponsorship program are encouraged to contact Nick Guererri via Facebook or in person, Steven Ovens via Facebook or in person, the Turn 5 Racing Podcast Facebook page or by emailing turn5podcast@gmail.com

The lap sponsorships are a $20 minimum to sponsor a lap and will utilize the “Brett Deyo Method” of paying back through the first 7 running positions throughout the event. Lap 1 to the leader, Lap 2 to 2nd place…Lap 7 to 7th place and Lap 8 resets to the leader of the race. This will help spread the lap money throughout the top running cars during the Cabin Fever 64.

More details on this prestigious event will be forthcoming as they are made available by Series officials and officials from the Canandaigua Motorsports Park.
