RANSOMVILLE, NY — official release — Alex and Helen Bruce Photo — A total of ninety cars entered the pit area last week set for competition in the Five Star division program presented by Firth’s Jewelers and the Lion’s Club.  A great crowd was on hand as Danny Johnson, Mike Williams, Alex Morris, Steve Matson and James Sweeting  took feature wins.

Danny Johnson of Rochester, NY made a house call last Friday night at the Big R as he collected his third win of the season.  The win couldn’t come at a better time for the veteran racer as just one point separated him from hotshoes Erick Rudolph and Ryan Susice coming into the event.  Johnson took the lead away from Easy E Rudolph on lap eleven of the thirty lap main and quickly pulled away to a one second lead. Rudolph was able to close the margin in lapped traffic but to no avail as  Johnson took  the win aboard his Traction Grabber #27j and extended his points lead unofficially to five markers over Rudolph and nine over Susice with one fifty lap main remaining.  Rudolph finished second followed by Susice, Pete Bicknell and Chad Brachmann. Bicknell currently sit fourth in points.
Mike Williams of the Tuscarora Nation collected his first win of the 2014 season in the Investors Services Sportsman division. Williams took command of the twenty-five lap feature main at the drop of the green and maintained it the entire distance.  Williams had to content with youngster Allan Wills who challenged for the number one position through the middle stages.  It would go all for naught as Williams held on to win the feature go.  Wills settled for second followed by James Henry, Matt Farnham, and Jesse Cotriss.  The points remain tight as Cotriss, James Michael Friesen and Greg Martin battle for position.  The three came into the event just seven points apart.  Cotriss enjoyed a fifth place finish while Martin ran seventh.  Friesen made contact with the wall towards the end of the main resulting in a thirteenth place finish.
Alex Morris of Niagara Falls, NY captured his second win of the season in the Ki-Po Chevrolet Street Stock division.  By virtue of some dismal finishes as of late, Morris found himself with a front row starting position for the twenty lap main.  Morris immediately took control in his RPM Property Management sponsored #99 with a hard charging field in tow.  Morris would contend with points leader Brian Lonneville in the closing laps as the #12 applied heavy pressure.  Lonneville would take a look to the inside on the final lap but contact sent him around in turn four.  Morris collected the win over Ken Camidge, Pat Dell, Dave Stolzenberg Jr., and Lonneville. Lonneville holds close to a one hundred point lead as he looks to collect his very first track championship.
Steve Matson of Ransomville, NY took top honors in the Gippster’s Collision 4 Banger feature main. Matson took the lead away from Dave Dussault early on in the twelve lap main and held off persistent challenges by Mike Kramarz in the closing stages.  Kramarz held on to finish second followed by Brian Monahan Jr., Austin Susice, and Mike Pahl.  The points remain very tight as leader Jim Stone finished one position ahead of Chris Leone.  The pair came into the event with just two points separating.  With a two point separation in the finish – the margin is unofficially just four markers with three shows remaining.
James Sweeting captured his second win of the season in the Van Raine Constructiion Novice Sportsman main event.  Sweeting took the lead at the drop of the green in the fifteen lap main and dominated the event aboard his Sweeting Asphalt sponsored #11j.  Dan Heschke finished in second followed by Mike Martin, Steve Lewis, and Rick Blech.
