OSWEGO, NY (August 11, 2013) – Jack Patrick led just one lap in the Pathfinder Bank SBS Series main event on Saturday night at Oswego Speedway, but it was the only one that mattered.

Patrick started from the pole position in the 30-lap feature go presented by JP Jewelers and stalked early race leader Dalton Doyle for 29 circuits. Finally, coming down for the white flag Patrick was able to dart to the low side into the first corner to snag the lead and run off with his fourth career main event win at the ‘Steel Palace.’

Doyle would hang on for the runner-up finish ahead of Rob Pullen, Russ Brown, and Anthony Losurdo in the top five positions.

“I’ll tell you, it has been a tough year for us this season,” said Patrick in Turning Stone Resort Casino Victory Lane. “I have to thank my sponsors Longley Dodge, Van Liew Septic, Red Baron Pizza, Uniforms Etc. and the whole crew. I was good on the long runs, but couldn’t get going on the restarts, and Dalton was getting a little loose there and I knew if I got close to him I would have a chance.”

At the drop of the green flag for the 30-lap main it would be Doyle jumping out in front from the outside of row number one, but before the field could make it through the first turn Dennis Rupert’s No. 99 ended sideways up against the outside steel wall. Rupert had a left rear issue on his machine which resulted in the left rear tires going flat, and that incident would force a complete restart.

Doyle would again get the edge on the second try jumping to the top spot ahead of Patrick early on as they led AJ Bernys, Pullen, and Kreig Heroth.

Another caution would wave at lap 2 as Tim Gareau, Scott Shafer, Chris Proud, and Mike Bond would all come together in the second corner. Proud, Bond, and Shafer would all pull away but Gareau would be done for the night.

Bond started deep in the field in the No. 74 after getting upside down on the first lap of his qualifying heat race. Josh Kerr would get out of shape in the second turn of that heat, clipping the Bond machine, sending him directly into the outside steel wall flipping the car up onto its roll cage. Bond would be ok and the racecar was repaired in time to start the main event.

After the restart for the main event tangle in turn two Pullen was able to slip underneath Bernys for third as Doyle and Patrick began to run away from the field running laps in the 19.4 second range.

Further back Jason Simmons was trying to work his way through the field in the battle for the Championship, but he would slip high on lap five losing spots to both Losurdo and Brown. Just two laps later Brown would work high on Losurdo to move to sixth in the line-up.

By lap 14 Doyle and Patrick had worked well out in front of the field, but their lead would be erased at the halfway point for debris in the first corner.

As they came back to green Doyle led Patrick, Pullen, Bernys, Brown, Heroth, Losurdo, Simmons, JJ Andrews, and Andrew Schartner.

After the restart Losurdo and Brown continued their charge through the field.

Losurdo found room underneath Heroth for sixth on lap 18 into turn one and then Brown would move under Bernys for fourth in lap 22 leaving the lane for Losurdo to follow as well to head to fifth by lap 23.

With things shaping up further back in the field, Patrick had managed to reel in leader Doyle by the 24th circuit and as Doyle began to loosen up in the No. 01 it looked as though Patrick was merely waiting for his moment to strike.

As the rear end of the No. 01 became looser and looser, Patrick was able to look low out of turn four coming for the white flag, diving deep into turn one to take the top spot.

From there Patrick was able to drive on to the victory, his first of 2013, and the fourth of his veteran career at Oswego.

Doyle, Pullen, Brown, Losurdo, Bernys, Simmons, Schartner, Heroth, and Andrews would fill the front ten positions.

“I didn’t know he was back there for the majority of the race,” said Doyle. “Then all of a sudden I just sort of felt him on by bumper. I don’t know if I started to over drive the car or not, but the way I got around that lap car there on the straight away I figured he (Patrick) may get held up but then I saw him peak his nose in there. He must have got a good run off the top, but he ran a good clean race, and good for him.”

After an up and down season himself, Rob Pullen came home on the podium.

“We’re getting better,” said Pullen. “We had to make some adjustments but last week we brought the car home in one piece and that makes it easier to get better. Those guys were just pulling away from me. We had our car the best it has been in a long time, but I didn’t have anything for those guys.”

Patrick, Doyle, and Pullen ironically also claimed Shell Shock Custom Helmet Paint heat race challenge victories on Saturday.

Doyle would go home with a $50 product certificate for leading the most laps from Sherwood Racing Wheels.

Bond was the D&S Landscaping Hard Charger with Losurdo once again picking up the Nice Price Auto Sales Up and Comer Award while Brown was the White’s Car Care 4th place finisher.
